This changelog currently includes release notes from 2023 onward. I'm working on bringing the rest over from the old site. Hopefully you'll see 2019-2022 show up here eventually. Updated 10/18/23
Continue to refine look and feel of project task lists; make more tasks visible on "top fold" of project details view
Allow restoration of recently deleted tasks via the "Done Today" screen
Detect data like phone numbers, addresses, and URLs in task notes and make them clickable to open the relevant app (phone, maps, browser)
Refresh home screen event list upon saving new event
Add iPad and Mac support
Fix a bug that could cause Project Details screen to hang when closing a project
FYI: This is the last planned version of Do The Thing Beta! You will get a pop up alert to remind you, and there is a link to the App Store version in the Tools Tab.
Fix a crash when saving changes to project details
Users can now add new contexts via the Tools Tab. As they should! Sorry about that, the most recent version shipped without the create button visible.
Display correct time interval in Wait... option description when saving new recurring tasks, even if user has changed time interval during task creation
Remove paywall from Open Loops, Add Task, and Project List screens
Open user's default email app when sending feedback via Tools Tab
What’s new:
Unchecking a recurring task to mark it incomplete now preserves that task's connection to the recurrence life cycle
New Dark Mode and Tinted icons for iOS 18
Home Screen calendar will now display a button to request calendar access if those permissions aren’t already granted
Open Loops, Create Task, and Project List tabs are now behind a paywall — please test out choosing a subscription, you will not be charged!
Lots happening behind the scenes here, none of it really visible! Initial transition to the new look is now complete. The app also now only supports portrait mode. If you used landscape mode previously and would appreciate seeing this functionality return, please send feedback! Include what screens you're on when you tend to rotate your device, and why you prefer the wider format in these cases.

Newly redesigned Tools Tab
Minor display tweaks and improvements
Adjustments to task list smart sort (task's creation date now contributes less weight to sorting; also fixed a bug that broke smart sorting in the new design)
Accessibility improvements to home screen calendar
Fix for bug that prevented future tasks and projects with no associated tasks from being imported from a backup file
🚨Big changes incoming 🚨
Do The Thing now requires iOS 16 or newer. Most users have automatic iOS updates enabled, so hopefully this won’t affect you. iOS 16 support goes all the way back to iPhone 8, iPhone SE, etc. Please make sure you’ve done your system updates before proceeding here.
This update contains all-new looks for the project list, open loops list, project details, task details/new task, and most task lists. Functionality should be the same as the old design, just with a cleaner look. Let me know how it works for you!
You’ll notice the Tools tab and associated views still have the old look. I’m working on that but wanted to get the new stuff out for you to test out in the meantime. Watch for a new and improved Tools tab in (hopefully) the next update.
Edit 3/21/24: The "tap to edit" feature in the task list has been removed as of this update. However, the swipe menu still functions as it always has. Swipe to open the menu, then tap the yellow "edit" or red "delete" button.
Happy New Year! Big stuff happening behind the scenes. Just a simple update today:
Revert (for now!) to “wheels” style date picker for expiration dates
Dependency updates
Minor bug fixes and improvements
Added Mark Complete/Close Project buttons to the bottom of Task and Project detail views
Added Save button to task notes editor
Fixed a dark mode display bug that caused toolbars/tab bar to render light in some cases
Replaced an expiring distribution certificate (boring)
Fixed a bug that prevented calendar from displaying in iOS 17 (oops)
Dropped support for iOS13
Updated dependencies
Updated dependencies
This update contains behind-the-scenes updates to dependencies. Nothing big or showy today. Stay tuned!
